SUPPLEMENTAL PROGRAMS

These programs are extended by an insurance provider or pharmacy benefit management organization (PBM) with the aim of augmenting the coverage offered by a primary insurance plan. These programs encompass a variety of programs such as over-the-counter benefit programs incentive-driven reward programs, and other services designed to provide supplementary value to plan members. By granting access to an expanded array of services and benefits, these supplemental programs play a pivotal role in advancing the overall health outcomes of plan members.

INCENTIVE DRIVEN REWARD PROGRAMS

These programs designed to encourage individuals to engage in healthy behaviors or achieve certain health-related goals, such as quitting smoking, losing weight, or exercising regularly, by offering incentives such as gift cards, discounts, or premium reductions on healthcare insurance.

A Pharmacy Benefit Management Organization (PBM) is a third-party administrator that manages prescription drug benefits on behalf of health plans, self-insured employers, and government programs:

  1. Managed Care Organizations (MCO): A type of health insurance plan that provides healthcare services through a network of providers. PBMs work with MCOs to manage prescription drug benefits for their members.
  2. Preferred Provider Organization (PPO): A type of health insurance plan that allows members to see any provider they choose, but offers lower out-of-pocket costs for in-network providers. PBMs work with PPOs to manage prescription drug benefits for their members.
  3. Medicare Part D prescription drug plan (PDP): A federal program that provides prescription drug coverage to people who are eligible for Medicare. PBMs work with PDPs to manage prescription drug benefits for Medicare beneficiaries.
  4. Medicare Advantage prescription drug plans (MAPD): A type of Medicare Advantage plan that includes prescription drug coverage. PBMs work with MAPDs to manage prescription drug benefits for Medicare beneficiaries
